Forgiving Someone The Humble Way

Updated: Jul 23, 2022

Hello Beautiful!!! A few days ago, I had a conversation with a good friend of mine, and I wanted to share somethings that God has been sharing with me on the topic. The conversation was about having to apologize to someone when you are innocent. I wanted to share this because I know many of us deal with this. I know for years God has been training me in this area because the work that He has for me requires for me to forgive and let it go. No, this training has not been easy, but it has been worth it. Yes, I need more work, but God is merciful with me every day and I am growing!

Common Statement: I don’t think I have to apologize when they hurt me? I didn’t do anything wrong!

So, let’s think about this for a moment… Think about Jesus, what will He do or say in this moment? Jesus will only have to say two words for us to understand why this statement is not valid. Those two words are, “my (Jesus) life.” Jesus is our example for living, witnessing, and loving one another. Every advice we need can be found in the way he lived as one of us. Jesus was perfect, everything He did was selfless and for our good and not His own. Jesus was innocent and pure. We crucified him.

We, on the other hand, are full of fault. Our life is nothing but trial and error when we are doing life on our own. This alone should explain why you should ask for forgiveness when you feel like you are innocent. When we become children of God, we accept the duty to serve Him, to keep His commandments, and follow the example of Jesus’ life on earth.

Jesus told and taught us that we should love our neighbors, treat everyone the way that we want to be treated, and to forgive 70 times 7. This shows us there is no time for unforgiveness, holding grudges, or waiting for someone to apologize to us. God really shined some light on this issue for me. He opened my eyes so that I could see a few things. I am just going to name a few and then you decide what to do next about forgiving those that you feel hurt you.

1. If you are the one bothered about what happened in a situation, then you need to decide to forgive or/and apologize. 2. If you are thinkin you are innocent and you should not have to ask for forgiveness, think about how imperfect you are, and apologize for all the wrongs that you have done and don’t know about. From my experience, you have done something that offended the other person. No matter how big or small. 3. Once you have given your life to God and have been fully transformed by God, you are expected to be an example for others. You can’t expect for someone to act like God’s child when they do not know Him. 4. People will never carry out a situation the way you do because they are not you.

I am pretty sure that there are more things that could go on this list, but these are some pretty good points to start with. We must know that God tells us to forgive others, not just for other's sake, but for our sake as well. Why? The answer is simple! You shall not put any god before God! That is the first commandment. Anything that you give all your attention, time, and self to become your God. Unforgiveness takes over you, it becomes all that you think about, all that you talk about. The feelings that come with unforgiveness keeps you bound in the situation with the person that caused you to hurt. Yes, you become bound by that person because then you never feel good enough, which starts the comparison game. How can you live a happy and fulfilled life like that? How can you do the work of God like that? How can you hear God’s voice? How can you change lives?
